"The role of the First-Year Adviser is to serve as the primary academic adviser for a small group of first-year students from their matriculation in August through the spring term. Typically, advisers work with three or four students and meet each advisee once every three or four weeks over the year. Advisers participate in training over the summer and are supported by the Advising Programs Office during the year through regular newsletters and optional professional development workshops. Our website has more information, including the responsibilities of First-Year Advisers and an example of the conversations advisers initiate with advisees throughout the year.
